Privacy Policy
ChatMC is a mobile client for Minecraft Java Edition servers. It is developed by an individual developer. This policy explains what the app stores, what it connects to, and what is measured.
There is no ChatMC account and no ChatMC server. The app does not operate a backend that receives your servers, messages or account data. It talks to Microsoft, Minecraft services and the servers you choose, directly from your device.
What is stored on your device
The following are kept locally and are not transmitted to the developer:
- The servers you add, including addresses, names and per-server settings
- Your account list, the currently selected account, and their order
- Quick inputs you save
- App settings such as language, theme and chat display preferences
Removing the app from your device removes this data.
Accounts and credentials
Signing in with Microsoft uses the system authentication flow. ChatMC never asks for, receives or stores your Microsoft password.
- On iOS, the Microsoft authentication cache and Minecraft access tokens are stored in the system Keychain.
- On Android, the Microsoft authentication cache is managed by the Microsoft Authentication Library, and Minecraft access tokens are encrypted with an app-specific key held in the Android Keystore.
- Deleting an account from ChatMC also removes its stored credentials from your device.
What ChatMC connects to
- Microsoft and Xbox services: to sign in and to verify Java Edition ownership.
- Minecraft services: to obtain the access token used to join servers, and to load profile information such as skins.
- The Minecraft servers you add: connections go directly from your device to that server. The server operator can see your connection and anything you send in chat, exactly as they would if you joined from the game.
These services handle your data under their own privacy policies, not this one.
Usage analytics
ChatMC uses Google Analytics for Firebase to understand which features are used and where the app fails. This measures how the app is used, not who you are.
The following are never sent to analytics:
- Server addresses, server names or server descriptions
- Account identifiers, profile identifiers or player names
- The contents of chat messages, commands or quick inputs
- Item and inventory details
- Raw error text that could contain any of the above
ChatMC does not set a Minecraft account or player identifier as an analytics user identifier. Usage analytics and advertising are kept separate: analytics does not use advertising identifiers, and analytics data is not used for ad targeting.
Advertising
ChatMC is free to use and shows banner advertising through Google AdMob. Ads appear only on the server list, the account list and the chat screen. There are no ads on launch, no full-screen ads, and no ads that block you from using a feature.
AdMob may process device information and advertising identifiers in order to serve and measure ads. See Google's partner sites policy for details.
Personalised ads require your permission. On iOS you are asked for tracking permission first, and if you decline you are shown non-personalised ads that do not use the advertising identifier. You can change this at any time in iOS Settings under Privacy & Security > Tracking.
A one-time in-app purchase in Settings removes every ad in the app. It is not a subscription, and you can restore it if you reinstall the app or move to a new device. Payment is handled by the App Store, so the developer never receives your payment details. Once ads are removed, no ad requests are sent to AdMob.
Children
ChatMC is not directed at children, and the developer does not knowingly collect personal information from children. Joining a Minecraft server means chatting with other people, and the developer does not control what other players say. Server operators are responsible for moderating their own servers.
Support enquiries
If you email support, that message and anything you attach to it are received by the developer. Please do not include passwords, tokens or verification codes. Support messages are kept only as long as needed to resolve the issue.
This website
This site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Like most web hosting, the provider processes technical request information such as IP addresses in order to serve and protect the site. The site itself sets no analytics or advertising cookies.
Your choices
- Delete an account inside ChatMC to remove its stored credentials from your device.
- Remove a server to delete it and its saved settings.
- Uninstall the app to remove all locally stored data.
- Manage the Microsoft account's own permissions from your Microsoft account settings.
Changes
When this policy changes, the date at the top of this page is updated. Changes that affect what is collected will be reflected here and in the app store privacy disclosures before they take effect in a released build.
